This concise book covers all the major sociological theories of crime. The book presents each theory in terms of the historical intellectual, sociological, political, and economic factors of the period during which it was developed and demonstrates the application of each theory through explanations of how each translated into the policies and programs of their day. It also demonstrates the contemporary uses of each theory and summarizes the major points of each. The third edition of Criminological Theory has been revised to include comprehensive literature references that reflect the latest views. It also provide expanded coverage of a number of topics, including postmodern criminology, a discussion of Chaos Theory, a separate chapter on Rational Choice and Routine Activities, and separate chapters on Gender/Feminist perspectives. The book also incorporates the latest references to research and theory testing within the discussion of each theory as well as new implications or applications of the theory in policy or criminal justice programming. An essential reference book for every legal professional and everyone involved in law enforcement.
About the Author
Marilyn D. McShane Professor of Criminal Justice, University of Houston Downtown Ph.D. (1985) Sam Houston State University Specialization: Institutional and community corrections, child abuse, criminal justice system management, and criminological theory. Dr. McShane has taught at the graduate and undergraduate level and has served on a number of national criminal justice professional organization boards. She often serves as a reviewer for the National Institute for Justice. At Cal State, San Bernardino (tenured professor) she received the faculty Professional Development Award in 1994 and she was Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice (tenured professor) at Northern Arizona University. At Prairie View A&M, she was the senior founding professor of the Juvenile Justice Doctoral Program. Her current appointment is at the University of Houston Downtown as an endowed professor and institute director. Dr. McShane Professor McShane has a consistent record of publication and grantsmanship (more than 50 books and articles, and directed several grants). Her editorial work includes a series of dissertations with LFB Scholarly Publishing and a scholarly monograph series with Greenwood / Praeger. She co-edited the award-winning "Encyclopedia of American Prisons "and is currently co-editing the" Encyclopedia of Juvenile Justice". Her most recent book is "Criminological Theory, "3rd Edition, coauthored with Frank P. Williams III.

FRANK P. WILLIAMS III is Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Houston, Downtown. He has taught for the past 30 years and was Chair at California State University, San Bernardino for nine years. He is the author of many books including Criminological Theory, now in its fourth edition, and Imagining Criminology.

In good shape

Ordered this for my daughter. The book was in condition, with the exception of highlighting on some pages. This can make it a bit difficult for her to read sometimes, however. Overall, not too bad.
