Perfect Starting Point for Buying and Renting

First, if you're looking for a book about flipping houses this probably isn't the right one for you. It may have some useful tips, but this for someone who wants to get into real estate for the long haul (i.e. purchasing and renting). But if you're looking for an idea of how to get started in real estate and have long term, sustainable income this book is for you.

I'm just getting started in this industry, and I was looking for a book that gave me an idea of what the process looks like start to finish, and what to expect entering the property management arena. I have read Rich Dad, Poor Dad and I really liked it, so I figured this was a good option to start with. I'm glad I did because this is exactly what I was looking for in a property investment book!

Entry level, high level over view of the entire process from looking for a property to things to be aware of and making offers. If you're experienced in real estate you probably won't get much from it other than maybe setting goals and how to value a property, but that may depend your time in the industry and what you specialize in (consumer purchases vs investment properties). Any way you look at it this book is a quick read and good starting point for anyone looking to get into the real estate investment scene.

Great read for aspiring real-estate investors

This book brings you from the ground up in regards to real-estate investing. Mr. McElroy utilizes insightful examples and real world knowledge to produce a solid knowledge base for the readers. The book brings out the importance of setting goals up front, and executing your goals through a systematic process that feels very prescriptive (which can be good and bad in some circumstances). I have yet to become financially free on the prescribed fundamentals that he outlines in the book but the book will most definitely give you a basic knowledge of setting goals, building your real-estate team, finding your market and submarket (if necessary), evaluating property, buying property, managing property, and selling property. Very thorough, a must have for anyone that has a desire to effectively make the bottom dollar in the real-estate market.

Useful but avoided one key concept

Although the details on managing the property are sound, there is a lack of information of acquiring and most importantly, it does not go into the most pivotal component for someone starting out: If you have thousands of dollars of upfront costs (due diligence) prior to acquiring a property and then you decide that it is not a good deal then you are out those thousands. If you rinse and repeat this process on a few properties and they are also a no go, that can be all of your savings (and if you are starting out with 0.00 then this scenario is even more daunting). It would have been nice for Ken to go into this component and how he overcame this issue.

A present day girl goes to an old world

This is a modern day novel about a twelve-year old orphan who lives unhappily in Canada, the north shore of Lake Ontario. Rose has gone to live with her father's sister and her family. Rose has always felt like an outsider and since she has a new home she might as well explore it. By accident, Rose stumbled upon an old Root cellar in which thought she would find canned vegetables. She went inside the cellar to investigate and when she came out, she came out in the 19th century Civil War era. Rose found herself in another place and another time (the 1860's), and she had shifted through time. Through time travel Rose found friends Susan and William Morrisay. Rose immediately found solace in her escapades through time, she also found that her friends desperately needed her help. The main character Rose, and her new friend Susan are the same age when they meet and as time goes on they embark on a torturous adventure to save Will from certain death. "Rose has finally found a place where she fits in, but she has to travel through time to get there."

The Root Cellar

The Root Cellar begins with Rose. She is 12 years old and orphaned due to her grandmother's passing. Rose has no other family that can take her. She must go live in Canada with an aunt who she has never met. Rose feels very lonely in her aunt's chaotic household. While looking for a quiet place , Rose finds a root cellar. When Rose comes out of it, she is on the same farm during the 1800's. Rose meets Will and Susan while she is there and quickly befriends them. Will goes off to fight in the Civil War. Rose and Susan go to Washington to try to find Will because they have not heard from him.

Janet Lunn did a good job tying the history and fiction together. She keeps the reader interested in the history, and she also makes you want to know what is going to happen to the characters. Janet Lunn also touches on the aspect of losing people and forming new relationships. This book is good and interesting.

The BEST book ever!!

If you like adventure then you will love this book "The Root Cellar" by Janet Lunn.This book is about a girl named Rose who goes to relative to relative . If you are wondering why, it is because her parents died when she was a young girl. and she went to live with her grandma. Her grandma died and then Rose started to go from place to place because the relative died or didn't want her around. Rose travels back in time by going into a root cellar. This book is called "The Root Cellar" because there is a root cellar where Rose enjoys being alone. Rose was never around kids her age , but her grandmothger told her that she was better off without them. She meets two children who are around her age and they create a strong bond. Rose and Sisan, who is one of her new friends, go on an exciting adventure they will remember for the rest of their lives!!!!!! The other child that Rose meets is Will. The book is a five star book to me and I suggest this book yo anyone who doesn't like reading. I hate reading and I loved this book. This book was so descriptive. When you read this book and think about it the book is so relaxing. If you close your eyes you will see the images in your mind it is so descriptive! So anyone can read it!!!!!

I came up with the idea for Game Day Treats when I was preparing food for my yearly Super Bowl party and I wondered what each of my heroines from the Fantasy Football Romance series would bring to a pot luck Super Bowl party. I think of my characters as real people and in a way they are, at least to me. Such is the life of a writer!

great recipes by four talented ladies

This is a well put together book the table of content is in the back of the book. But when you find it you will find a lot of great recipes by four talented ladies. Everyone of them adds her own special dishes to this cookbook. I love the Irish nachos and the chili from miss. Jameson. The jalapeno chicken poppers by miss. Hahn is out of this world. And the taco pie and pinwheel pizzas by miss. Angel O'Malley are fantastic. As for miss. Middleton the cougar chow was a beautiful addition to my table but since I did not have a cougar I gave it to my bulldogs instead. Thank you and enjoy your day.

A book to think about...

This book isn't really a sequel to the other 2 books in this series. The main character is not featured in book 2, and the only character from book 2, is Gwen Carson, who had a small part in book 2. That being said, I thought this book was great. Jillian takes over for her twin, Judith, at her job in an Arizona Harvey Restaurant. The novel follows her as she struggles to find her faith, and to reconcile her love and respect for her parents with her growing sense of independence. She also seeks to find her place in the world.
Ms. Peterson is able to bring to live the struggle between the white man and the Indians in the late 1800s. By using Jillian to act as conscience for the community, she allows Jillian to point to people in the community as hypocrites. I saw this role as extremely important in the book. By the time the showdown between the town and Jillian arrives, I was ready for someone to take a stand.
I would heartily recommend this book to anyone. You don't even have to read the other 2 books first.

Compelling intrigue, romance and living with deceipt!

A Veiled Reflection is the third book in the series about the Harvey House girls and this one is superb! Jillian agrees to pretend to be her twin sister, Judith and this starts her life in Arizona off on the wrong foot - that of living in deceipt. She obviously has trouble performing like her trained sister and runs into a few people who know the difference. When she falls in love, she is sure it is one-sided. The man she loves has a secret past and refuses to love again. The Navajo Indians are represented in this book and are loved and ministered to by one old lady, Mary. Prejudice and hatred show their ugly faces even between civilized white people who think they are Christians. A few refuse to be drug into the garbage and end up being forced to take a stand. This is excellent reading, good for making some religious and political stands, and romantically it is suberb!

Disappointing.

I was disappointed in the book, but I give it props for being one of the few Hmong names books out there. It is organized by boys, girls and gender neutral names (single word name, two word name, and three word name). I was hoping it'd be helpful in finding a good Hmong baby name that wasn't so common, but I couldn't even find my own name in it. I am keeping it as a reference book, but it definitely wasn't worth the price.

Not worth it unless you don't know any Hmong names at all..very simple names

The names in this book is so plain and they repeat the same first symbol over and over. I was hoping for some very unique names but is not statisfy with it. I look through it once and never did open this book again. Not sure if I recommend it. Anyone could come up with these names.

Good effort but name definitions are misleading.

While I appreciate the effort to compile a book of Hmong names, I'm disappointed. The names are not defined as the phrases they are but rather as the individual words in a name.

For example the name "Hnub Ci" should be defined as shining/bright sun. Instead, the book defines "Hnub Ci" as the separate words "hnub" and "ci." The definition we're told is "sun, day, daytime" (which is the definition of hnub) and "bake, toast, shine, twinkle, bright" (which is the definition of ci). If I didn't know better and was simply going off of the book's definition, I might think Hnub Ci means daytime toast.

I would have liked to see actual definitions of names and not just definitions of the individual words within a name.
